Wide receiver: Treadwell vs. Johnson

Things seem to have shaken out pretty well for the receiving group of the Minnesota Vikings. At the top, Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are the obvious number one and two pass catchers on the team but the depth past them is where things get confusing.

Without knowing the order for sure, there is a lot to speculate about. However, one player who should be a lock is Chad Beebe, who would have earned a spot even without his recent move to being the team’s holder in practices and even in Week 2 of the preseason. Add in Brandon Zylstra likely returning, and you have a situation where that fifth wide receiver spot is up for grabs.

Former first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell should be the favorite based on experience, but it’s going to be hard to keep 2019 seventh-round pick Bisi Johnson off the roster after some really good play in preseason contests.

Minnesota may want to hold on to Treadwell in hopes of making a trade or earning a compensatory pick, but doing so with the risk of losing someone like Johnson isn’t too smart since the pick would likely be a late-rounder anymore. It should be time to throw in the towel on Treadwell.

Projected winner: Bisi Johnson
