7 takeaways from the Vikings’ preseason win over the Cardinals

Kicking situation still a mystery
A week after the Vikings used two different punters and two different kickers in their preseason matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, there was some hope that Saturday’s game would finally help the team figure out their kicking situation for the regular season.
However, this week’s preseason contest against the Cardinals might have actually made things worse for Minnesota.
On Saturday, the Vikings decided to use Matt Wile as their punter and holder and Kaare Vedvik as their placekicker and kickoff specialist while kicker Dan Bailey just stood on the sidelines and watched it all go down.
Wile had a pretty good day punting the ball, but Vedvik missed both of his field goal attempts. His first try from 43 yards away sailed wide left and his other attempt of 54 yards landed on the right side of the goalposts.
It still seems unlikely that Minnesota will cut Vedvik before the regular season since they just lost a fifth-round draft pick to acquire him. But it certainly doesn’t appear like he’s going to be opening the year as the Vikings’ field goal kicker.
