Boone has earned a roster spot

If there was anyone who still wasn’t sure about Mike Boone finding a fit on the Vikings’ regular season roster this year, he made it even more clear that he deserves a spot during Saturday’s preseason game.

Boone continued to run and catch well out of the backfield this week. But he made an impact on special teams for Minnesota on Saturday as well. Against the Cardinals this week, Boone had a kickoff return for 26 yards and he also made an impressive tackle on punt coverage.

It’s his extra effort on special teams that will likely give him the edge over some of the other running backs competing for a roster spot this season.

Boone’s main competition to open the year as the Vikings’ third running back behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison seems to be Ameer Abdullah. Even though Boone has definitely outperformed Abdullah during the preseason, it’s possible that Minnesota may just decide to keep both players on their final 2019 roster.
