5 Vikings to Watch: Preseason Week 4 vs. the Bills
By Nik Edlund
Karter Schult – DE
Karter Schult has quietly put together a solid little preseason for himself. Looking at his stats, one would think he’d be an easy cut choice. But dig a little deeper and it’s clear this guy has been a disruptive presence on the Vikings’ defensive line.
Schult has put together a couple of solid performances during Minnesota’s exhibition games this summer. He was consistently in the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive backfield in Week 2, forcing the quarterback to get the ball out earlier than he wanted to.
He did the same against the Arizona Cardinals last Saturday. He’s not a guy who will wow you physically, but he has a high motor and he gives his all every snap of the football.
It’s really hard to say at this point if Schult will make the Vikings regular season roster or not. He’s probably earned the fifth defensive end spot, but the question is if the team will keep that many.
Minnesota only kept a total of nine defensive linemen last year and if they stick with that number, it will be awfully hard to find room on the team for this Schult. His roster spot might come down to him or rookie defensive tackle Armon Watts.
If that’s the case, then the Vikings could stick with their 2019 draft pick over Schult.
