Can a young cornerback win a job?

Much like the opportunity for the young wide receivers, the cornerbacks currently on the Vikings roster has a chance to make a statement as well. The group will get extensive playing time on Thursday night as the defensive backs have an eerily similar situation after releasing Bene Benwikere.

As the current Vikings depth chart stands now, the top three positions are set in stone as Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes will start at cornerback with Mackensie Alexander manning the slot. While Mike Hughes was removed from the PUP list earlier this week, he might not even be ready to play the first couple weeks of the regular season and Holton Hill will also miss the first eight games due to multiple suspensions.

With all that’s going on with the Viking cornerbacks, Thursday is a golden opportunity for someone to get a job. Kris Boyd, Nate Meadors, Duke Thomas, and Craig James will all have a chance to impress and if they can’t get the job done, this will be another area in which the Vikings could look for veteran help.
