Special Teams (3)
- Dan Bailey (K)
- Matt Wile (P)
- Austin Cutting (LS)
As always, the special teams are an adventure for the Vikings as they coughed up another draft pick to try and solve the problem.
But much like when they traded up for Daniel Carlson in the 2018 NFL Draft and promptly bailed once he cost them a game, Kaare Vedvik has not been impressive during his time in Minnesota and he will likely see the ax fall on him because of it.
That leaves both incumbents keeping their jobs as Dan Bailey will resume his duties as kicker and Matt Wile will remain the Vikings’ punter. Both might be enough to make Minnesota fans and Mike Zimmer sick by the time the calendar hits October, but there just aren’t many alternatives.
One solution the Vikings hope improves the special teams performance is the addition of rookie Austin Cutting, who replaces Kevin McDermott as the team’s long snapper this year.
While it’s a minor change, shaking things up a bit may be what this team needs to finally get it right.
