Quarterbacks (3)

  • Kirk Cousins, Sean Mannion, Kyle Sloter

The first two spots on the quarterback depth chart were locked up when the preseason began as starter Kirk Cousins and backup Sean Mannion were going to make this team from the second they took the field. The bigger question this preseason surrounded around the fate of third-string quarterback Kyle Sloter.

While many fans would love to see Sloter higher on the depth chart, the reality is that he was just fighting for a spot on the Vikings’ roster all along.

After lighting up third-string defenses for the third consecutive preseason, fans will be disappointed that he’ll likely be listed behind Mannion, but also optimistic considering Minnesota won’t want to lose him to another team.

In any event, the Vikings’ offense will still have to revolve around Cousins. His 3-for-13 performance against the Arizona Cardinals last week didn’t inspire hope in those who think he’s not worth his $84 million salary.

But he’s what Minnesota has to deal with for at least the next two seasons. If he goes down though, the Vikings likely won’t have the tools to withstand his absence.
