Will the Vikings survive their cornerback crunch?

If there is one level of the defense that Mike Zimmer takes the most pride in, it’s in the secondary. While Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris have the safety spots locked down for the Vikings, the cornerback position could cause many problems for the team this season due to a lack of depth and off-the-field issues.

While the Vikings are hoping Xavier Rhodes will bounce back from a tough 2018 season, the duo of Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander should be solid enough to form a great trio at the top of Minnesota’s depth chart.

After that though, the Vikings will be looking for someone to step up while Mike Hughes recovers from his knee injury and Holton Hill misses the first eight games due to suspension.

Minnesota attempted to solve the problem over the weekend by acquiring rookie corner Mark Fields from the Kansas City Chiefs, but he’s as much as a project as fellow rookie cornerback Kris Boyd.

Even though Zimmer is considered to be a cornerback guru, he will have his work cut out for him in 2019 until this unit gets back to full strength.
