North Texas at SMU

When: Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Where: Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, TX

TV: ESPN3

The night concludes with several intriguing matchups. But before we get to some big showdowns, we have a brilliant under-the-radar game in Dallas. North Texas takes on SMU in a matchup loaded with NFL talent. The offensive side of the ball will be must-watch content for both teams in this one.

North Texas

These lists will be short in comparison to others, but not less important. North Texas may not seem like a pipeline to the NFL, but Mason Fine is here to change that.

Fine, the senior quarterback, is a fun prospect under center. Despite his small stature – 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds – Fine is a big-time player. His timing is excellent across the middle, he uses great ball placement, and he has a strong enough arm.

The big concerns with Fine come with his size, but not quite how you’d expect. He fails to use his undersized frame to his advantage. Fine struggles to escape pressure or use his legs. I can see Fine climbing into Day 2 of the NFL Draft if he plays well in 2019.

SMU

The SMU Mustangs have a high-powered offense thanks to their two incredible receivers. James Proche is a dynamic slot receiver who flashes strong hands. His body control on contested catches is other-worldly at times.

He is built for the slot and has the tools to be an NFL star. His cuts out of the break allow him to eat across the middle.

Reggie Roberson Jr. is also an NFL talent in the making. Roberson is the perimeter threat for the Mustangs. He turns 50/50 balls into 70/30 balls.

His insane leaping ability paired with strong hands make him a dangerous threat down the field. Roberson does struggle over the middle and with route running, but the physical tools are promising.

This game will feature a few potential NFL players. If you can find the time to watch it, you will not be disappointed.
