More bad things

As previously stated, this is a game where nearly everything went the way the Minnesota Vikings wanted. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some other things to pull away from this contest which aren’t good going forward.

The biggest issue is the injuries. During the game, Xavier Rhodes came in and out a couple of times due to injury and that will be something fans and the team will need to monitor. But that’s not the biggest issue the team faces at cornerback.

Mackensie Alexander reportedly suffered a sprained elbow during this game and an MRI is scheduled to see what kind of damage was done, if any. It looks like this could be at least a four to six-week injury, and with Holton Hill not available because of suspension, it gets even tougher down the road.

Here are some more bad things to come out of the second preseason game for the Minnesota Vikings:

  • Ball security. Whether it is handing the exchange from the center or getting the ball out of his hand, it’s always scary when the ball falls on the ground around Kirk Cousins. The quarterback is a bit well-known for struggling with holding onto the football and those were some scary moments.
  • Garbage time. It’s understandable to ease off the gas pedal a bit late in the game when you have a multiple-score lead. However, it’s frustrating to see easy yards and touchdowns come when the final outcome of the game has already been determined. More specifically, Julio Jones had done almost nothing in the game until garbage time, but he ended with a 31 and score thanks to those meaningless stats.
