Jury is still out on the Packers “improved” defense

Ever since the Packers’ “new-and-improved” defense held the Bears and Mitchell “Future Hall of Famer” Trubisky to just three points last week, they’ve been getting praised like they’re the second coming of the Baltimore Ravens historic 2000 defense.

But perhaps, Green Bay had the luxury of facing a poor offensive line in Week 1? The Packers’ defense was able to generate 19 pressures in their matchup with Chicago and that’s certainly an improvement from their pass rush in 2018.

However, is the pressure Green Bay generated last week something that they can sustain all season long?

The Vikings didn’t allow very much pressure last Sunday against the Falcons. But Minnesota also only attempted 10 passes, so it’s hard to really judge how well or how poorly they performed.

The Vikings’ new offensive scheme is also set up to help eliminate their opponent’s pass rush. One would expect Minnesota to utilize a bunch of play-action and bootleg plays this week to help reduce the pressure on Kirk Cousins.

For a unit that gave up more than 400 total yards in both of their matchups with the Vikings just one year ago, let’s slow down on crowning the Packers’ defense one of the best in the league after just one game.
