Michigan State traveled to Arizona State in 2018 and lost on a last-second field goal. Can the Spartans get revenge or will the Sun Devils claim dominance over a top-25 program?

Arizona State

The Sun Devils are riding a true freshman quarterback in Jayden Daniels. The youngster has 588 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions in two career outings. Brandon Aiyuk is the standout receiver for ASU, hauling in eight passes for 238 yards and a score this season. Eno Benjamin is the star of the offense at running back. Benjamin is a threat at any level and is dynamic with the ball. He carried the ball 300 times for over 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He has 297 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns to kick off his junior campaign. Chase Lucas is a high-ceiling cornerback on the defensive side of the ball that will get plenty of NFL looks. He had five interceptions and 13 pass deflections in his first two seasons. His ball skills are very welcoming for scouts.

Michigan State

Quarterback Brian Lewerke has NFL dreams that are quite realistic. He was a big name for the 2019 draft before a bad season. Now, he looks to bounce back and get back in the mix this year. He completed just 54 percent of his passes last year and had just eight touchdowns with 11 interceptions. In a small sample size this year, Lewerke is up to nearly 64 percent completion with four touchdowns and one interception. Cody White will be a wide receiver to watch in the NFL someday. He stands 6-foot-3 with good leaping ability outside. He has averaged over 13 yards per reception during his career.

The Spartans always seem to have a great defense, and 2019’s team is no different. Defensive end Kenny Willekes is my top-ranked Spartan for the 2020 draft. He is a strong and powerful rusher who times the snap with ease. His lack of speed is masked by great hands, quick feet, and timing. Free safety David Dowell plays with speed and an aggressive demeanor on the back end. Middle linebacker Joe Bachie is a senior leader and tackling machine. The Michigan State defense might be strong enough to win the Big Ten this season.
