Nebraska at Illinois

When: Saturday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET

Where: Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL

TV: Big Ten Network

Similar to the SEC situation, Nebraska and Illinois contest is more about pride and competing for a bowl game at the end of the season. Both are chasing Wisconsin and Iowa in the Big Ten West. Nebraska enters at 2-1 following a big win last weekend. Illinois, also 2-1, enters play following a loss to Eastern Michigan. Neither team has looked promising this season, but this game could change the direction of their seasons.

Nebraska

Nebraska cannot afford to look ahead to the Ohio State game next week and lose this contest to Illinois. The Cornhuskers were hyped up all spring before an early loss to Colorado. With their Big Ten hopes drifting away, Nebraska needs to take care of business and control what they can control.

Quarterback Adrian Martinez is one of the most electrifying dual-threat quarterbacks that the NCAA has to offer. Oh, and star wide receiver JD Spielman is the son of Vikings general manager Rick Spielman. JD has averaged over 14 yards per reception in college. He also averages 23.9 yards per kickoff return and 16.3 yards per punt return. His big-play ability will get him a shot at the next level for sure.

Cornerback Lamar Jackson is yet another long-bodied defensive back to watch in 2020. His size allows him to be physical at the line and get his hands on the ball in coverage. Teams have recently decided to throw away from Jackson, which is not a knock on his production. His ceiling is pretty high as far as I am concerned.

Illinois

Illinois is far from a powerhouse or even a contender. However, the offense can put up points in a hurry. They average 34.6 points through three contests in 2019.

Running back Reggie Corbin is another talented senior running back to keep an eye on. He only has 256 career carries, so he should have plenty left in the tank. In two games this season, Corbin has 180 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Corbin has a ton of speed and excellent vision near the line of scrimmage, making big runs easy to come by.
