Will the Vikings defense avoid being fooled?

There are few quarterbacks in the league that are as polarizing as Mitchell Trubisky is right now. As the man tabbed with taking that torch from Blake Bortles, Trubisky has shown flashes of being a solid starter in the NFL while providing plenty of “what the heck” moments several plays later.

This year, head coach Matt Nagy has decided to highlight Trubisky’s strengths and make things as easy as possible. Still, the results have been mixed. Through three games, Trubisky has seen drops in yards per game, completion percentage and QB rating while being limited to short throws.

While Trubisky is coming off his best game of the season against the Bears, a lot of his success has had to do with Nagy’s play design. The Chicago signal-caller is just 10-for-32 on passes of 10 or more yards downfield this season, so Nagy has window dressed the offense where it usually leads to wide open throws such as two of the three that Taylor Gabriel scored touchdowns on Monday night.

The focus of the Vikings defense in Soldier Field should be simple. Contain Trubisky in the pocket and don’t fall for all the extras that Nagy throws at them. If they’re able to do that, this should be the low-scoring game it’s expected to be.
