The sky isn’t falling

Following the final whistle of the Vikings’ loss to the Bears on Sunday, there were many who immediately bought a ticket to “Overreaction City”.

Some people want Minnesota to bench Kirk Cousins and start Sean Mannion (barf), some think the season is already over (despite the team only being 2-2 through four weeks), and some even believe that Mike Zimmer should be fired.

Hate to break it to these people, but none of these things are going to happen anytime soon. There is way too much time left in the current season for anyone to freak out about the Vikings’ chances this year. Especially since they are coming off a loss in a stadium where they have historically struggled.

Aside from the two losses, Minnesota has had a bunch of things go right for them this season as well. The Vikings have looked dominant in their two home games this year, so these performances shouldn’t be erased from everyone’s memories.

Problems aren’t solved by quick, emotionally-fueled decisions (see Minnesota cutting Daniel Carlson last season). Instead, the Vikings now have 12 more opportunities this year to improve their performance and add to their win total.

This is the fourth time Minnesota has started their season 2-2 since Zimmer arrived in 2014. During the three previous instances, the Vikings qualified for the playoffs twice.
