Trading Stefon Diggs would be tremendously stupid

The Minnesota Vikings star receiver missed practice on Wednesday, which set off another round of ridiculous trade rumors.

In the summer of 2018, the Minnesota Vikings agreed to a five-year contract extension with wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The marriage between the two sides seemed to be a great one as Diggs stayed linked to the franchise for whom he provided the most memorable moment in the past 20 years and the Vikings kept a receiving corps together that also included Adam Thielen.

When the contract was signed, many figured it would lock Diggs up in a Vikings jersey for the foreseeable future and the Minnesota offense would have great success because of it. Fast forward to today’s Vikings and that offensive picture needs a bit of help.

After the first four games, the Vikings passing offense ranks 31st in the NFL in passing yardage (and ahead of the New York Jets, who have only played three games) and many are ready to bring their torches and pitchforks to the locker of Kirk Cousins.

The issue here is that some suggest that Diggs is leading the charge. After several rumors have surfaced through the end of last season by random Twitter users and his brother’s Instagram account, Diggs is in the middle of unofficial trade discussions again and fanned the flames with a single-emoji tweet on Tuesday night and absence from practice on Wednesday.

While many are freaking out because the dark corners of the internet are reporting Diggs is on his way out, the odds are he isn’t going anywhere even if he is unhappy. That’s because it would be the dumbest possible thing the Vikings could do at this juncture.
