Flashback Friday: Vikings take care of the Giants in 2016
By Ali Siddiqui
Back during the 2016 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings were able to get a fairly simple win over a visiting New York Giants team.
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a disappointing loss on the road to the division rival Chicago Bears and they need to get back in the win column as they head into Week 5 of the 2019 NFL season when they take on the New York Giants.
The Giants have won their past two games since moving rookie quarterback Daniel Jones into the starting lineup. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2016.
In the first-ever Monday Night Football game at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings beat the Giants by a final score of 24-10 to improve to 4-0 on the season. Minnesota won the following week too, but they, unfortunately, finished the season at 8-8.
Sam Bradford went 26-for-36 for 262 yards and a touchdown. Jerick McKinnon rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Charles Johnson had two receptions for 70 yards. Kyle Rudolph had five receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. Stefon Diggs and Cordarrelle Patterson each recorded five receptions as well and the offensive line did not allow a single sack.
Xavier Rhodes recorded an interception and held star New York wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to just three receptions for 23 yards. Harrison Smith had a team-high nine tackles while Eric Kendricks and Captain Munnerlyn each recorded eight.
For the Giants, Eli Manning went 25-for-45 for 261 yards and an interception. Bobby Rainey had seven receptions for 43 yards. Victor Cruz had five receptions for 50 yards. Landon Collins recorded a game-high 10 tackles and Jonathan Casillas added eight more.
A win for the Vikings on Sunday could perhaps be the beginning of a nice turnaround. This is a must-win game for the purple.
Prediction: Vikings win 24-13
