Xavier Rhodes – CB

After having a bit of a down season in 2018, the Vikings were hoping that Xavier Rhodes would return to his normal, elite form this year. However, that hasn’t been the case for the veteran cornerback.

Rhodes has appeared in all five games for Minnesota this season and he’s had some promising moments, but he’s definitely not playing anywhere near the level he was at just two years ago when he was a First-Team All-Pro.

This season, Rhodes is allowing his coverage to catch 75 percent of their targets (up 13.7 percent from 2018) and opposing quarterbacks have a rating of 108.9 when throwing passes to receivers covered by the Vikings corner (compared to an 85.3 rating last year).

According to Over The Cap, Minnesota is estimated to begin the 2020 offseason around $1.3 million over the allowed salary cap. So the Vikings are going to have to make some pretty significant roster moves next year just to get under the cap.

Based on Rhodes’ performance so far this season and the fact that he’s due to have a cap hit of $12.9 million in 2020, Minnesota’s veteran corner is definitely a candidate to be released during the upcoming offseason. So why not try and get something in return for him before the trade deadline?
