Waynes is trending in the wrong direction

For a guy that is currently in the last year of his contract, one would think that Trae Waynes would be in the middle of an impressive season. Unfortunately for the Vikings, this hasn’t been the case with Waynes in 2019.

He’s currently Minnesota’s No. 2 cornerback, but the team may have to think about demoting him if he keeps up his poor play.

Heading into this week, Waynes was allowing his coverage to catch 79.3 percent of their targets and that number is just not acceptable for a player that is supposed to be the second-best corner on the Vikings’ defense.

Every week it seems like Waynes gets beat for a deep pass or two and gets flagged for a penalty that results in a big gain for Minnesota’s opponent. The Vikings corner got away with a few close calls on Sunday against the Eagles and in a different game, it’s possible that he could have drawn a flag or two.

His mistakes on Sunday maybe weren’t as noticeable since Minnesota got the win. But when the Vikings are in playing in closer games later this season, Waynes’ poor play could end up being something that costs them a victory.
