Everson Griffen – DE

Everson Griffen is without a doubt the most surprising Vikings player of the 2019 season so far. This guy has been playing like his entire rear end is completely ablaze.

He looks like he has the energy of a first-year player and he has been a constant terror in opposing backfields all season long.

Griffen is having a fantastic 2019 campaign. He already has three sacks on the season, an interception, and 15 tackles. It seems like he’s also had a hundred pressures this season as he’s constantly in the face of opposing quarterbacks.

Griffen hasn’t just been great at rushing the passer, but he’s been a complete defensive end this year. He’s been solid against the run and he has been playing smart football.

Multiple times this season, he’s sniffed out screen passes and when he is unblocked he immediately recognizes it, turns and goes upfield, and is all over the opposing running back who is the intended target.

It’s great seeing Griffen have this kind of resurgence. It’s hard to believe that just a few short months ago, there were people clamoring for Griffen to get traded for a fifth-round pick or flat out cut. That has clearly motivated Griffen and he’s surprisingly putting together one of the best seasons of his career at the age of 31.
