The talented Kansas City Chiefs quarterback sustained a knee injury on Thursday night and it’s likely going to keep him out for the team’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings this season.

Prior to the start of the season, many believed the hardest game for the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 was going to be their Week 9 road trip to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs.

Following their win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, however, the Chiefs will now likely have to go up against the Vikings this year without the services of their top quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

Against the Broncos, Mahomes went down with a knee injury during the second quarter of the matchup. He was able to walk off the field without any assistance, but he missed the remainder of the game.

Following Kansas City’s win on Thursday, it was revealed that Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday, the quarterback will likely miss the team’s next three games at the very least.

One of the Chiefs’ next three matchups will come against Minnesota in Week 9. A win in this game almost seemed impossible for the Vikings a few weeks ago. But with Mahomes now expected to be on the sidelines for the meeting, the chances of a Minnesota victory certainly got a big boost.

This isn’t the first time this season the Vikings have benefited from a top opposing player being unable to play due to an injury. Back in Week 5, Minnesota was able to get a win over the New York Giants, who were without the services of top running back Saquon Barkley.

Injuries are a part of every NFL season and they play a big factor in which teams are able to achieve the most success. So far this year, injuries seem to be effecting the Vikings’ opponents more than their own roster.
