Minnesota’s defense adjusts well after rough first half

Prior to their matchup with the Vikings on Sunday, the Lions didn’t put up more than 20 points in the first half of a game all season long.

So obviously that wasn’t going to change against a Minnesota defense that had only been giving up 15.5 points per contest heading into this week, right? Well, unfortunately, the Vikings let Detroit walk into the locker room at the half of Sunday’s game with 21 points next to their name on the scoreboard.

Minnesota’s defense actually gave up 238 yards to the Lions in the first two quarters, including 173 yards through the air. One can only imagine the colorful speech Mike Zimmer had for the Vikings’ defenders at the half.

To Minnesota’s credit though, their defense came out in the second half and held Detroit to just 10 points. A lot of this turnaround had to do with the Vikings holding the Lions to just one 3rd down conversion in the game’s final two quarters (Detroit had five in the first half).

Obviously, Zimmer would’ve liked to see his defense perform well for an entire contest. But at least Minnesota’s defenders were able to make the proper adjustments at the half to help lead their team to a win on Sunday.
