Two Minnesota Vikings players nominated for awards for play in Week 7

A high-scoring output in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions led to two players from the Minnesota Vikings earning nominations for awards

The Minnesota Vikings ran up the scoreboard in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions, scoring the most points of their 2019 season to this point. Six touchdowns were scored by the purple and gold in their 42-30 win in the Motor City.

There were some great performances in the game. The Lions had no answers for the Vikings offense. Minnesota was able to run the ball well and paired that with a passing attack that was not only efficient but explosive,

For their efforts, two players from the Minnesota Vikings were recognized for their efforts and were nominated for awards. The NFL announced the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week for Week 17 and the list includes Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook.

There are two ways to vote for your choice to win. You can cast your vote on NFL.com or you can make your choice in the official tweets. First up is the FedEx Air choices from the NFL’s official Twitter account:

Normally, 337 yards and four touchdowns would make Cousins a shoo-in for the award. However, he will face a massive challenge in Aaron Rodgers, who may have had his best performance as a member of the Packers. Rogers should be considered the favorite for the nod, but you never know how fan votes will turn out.

On the other hand, the choices for FedEx Ground isn’t as clear cut. Here are the choices in the official tweet from the NFL:

Dalvin Cook has the most yardage of anyone nominated this week and his two scores put him in a good position. However, voters may be swayed by the fact that Chase Edmonds found the end zone on three occasions. If Vikings fans want Cook to get the win, they will need to vote in large numbers.

This is only the third time that a player from one team has been nominated for both FedEx Air and Ground awards in one week. If either Cousins or Cook wins, a $2,000 donation would be made in their name to the USO.

Voting closes Thursday at 2 p.m. CT. While voting for the Minnesota Vikings players would be great, fans should vote for who is most deserving of the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week for Week 17. Best of luck to Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook!
