Minnesota Vikings MVPs: Week 8 vs. Washington Redskins
By Adam Carlson
Offensive MVP – Dalvin Cook, running back
This was a tough choice because this wasn’t one of the amazing games fans have become to expect from Dalvin Cook on the ground. After being the FedEx Ground Player of the Week last week, he only got 98 yards on the ground on 23 carries, an average of 4.3 yards per attempt.
Cook did a lot more damage to Washington in the passing game. He caught five of the six passes thrown his way, dropping the one incompletion. Still, he turned those five grabs into 73 yards, showcasing great vision, acceleration, and elusiveness after the catch.
On the total 28 touches in the game, Cook accounted for 171 yards of the Vikings total offense, which was 434 yards. With nearly 40 percent of the team’s yardage going through his hands, Minnesota is truly putting the outcome of games into the hands of their star running back.
What pushed Cook to be the offensive MVP is that he was the only person in the game to score a touchdown. That’s right, of every player on both teams, the Vikings running back was the only one to get in the end zone. And that combined with his yardage on the ground and through the air is enough to earn the honor.
