Damon Arnette – CB (Ohio State)

vs. #13 Wisconsin

There’s another Ohio State cornerback worth watching this weekend. Damon Arnette projects to be one of the best slot corners in next year’s draft.

Ohio State defends the pass well and has one of the best secondaries in the country. Arnette is the heart and soul of that defense after being a Buckeye for five seasons now. He plays with the confidence that you need in a corner and he knows how to back up his talk. He has recorded at least one interception in each year at Ohio State.

Arnette is a bit smaller and he has a ton of speed, making him the perfect slot option. The Vikings are facing questions about their future at the position, but he could be a perfect plug-and-play nickel corner as Mike Hughes develops into the team’s outside cornerback.

Arnette has the speed to keep up with receivers down the field and he rarely gets beat over the top. His presence in the slot on Saturday will be huge against Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor. Again, Wisconsin is not known for throwing the ball, so Arnette can show his versatility in this week’s game.

Prediction

As Ohio State pulls away in the second half, the Wisconsin offense will have to force some throws. Quarterback Jack Coan will do all he can to avoid Jeffrey Okudah, making Arnette a target over the middle. Some forced throws will lead to turnovers at the hands of Arnette.
