5 players who could be the MVP of the Vikings in 2019
By Nik Edlund
Danielle Hunter – DE
Danielle Hunter is quietly playing at an MVP level for the Vikings this season. Everson Griffen has been getting more attention for his comeback season with his consistent pressure, overall hustle, and good play, but Hunter has the numbers and would he get the nod if it came down to those two for Minnesota’s MVP.
Hunter already has eight sacks on the season with 39 tackles and one forced fumble. This guy is just a freak. He’s so big, powerful, and quick that a single man alone cannot block him. He uses his long, powerful arms to throw would-be blockers out of his way and then close in on the opposing passer very quickly.
If Hunter isn’t sacking the quarterback, he is either making him throw it early or hitting his arm to cause the pass to go awry for a member of Minnesota’s secondary to potentially pick it off.
This guy is so good, yet he doesn’t get much national media attention and he is rarely mentioned when there are discussions about the best pass rushers in the NFL.
Hunter is on pace for 16 sacks this season and if he reaches or exceeds that number, maybe that’ll be enough to give this young phenom the credit he deserves.
