Holton Hill – CB

The Vikings are getting cornerback Holton Hill back this week after he served his eight-game suspension for a multitude of league violations. The timing of his return couldn’t be more perfect.

The Vikings secondary has had some injury issues this season and recently has been getting torched by opposing offenses. Xavier Rhodes is struggling and it’s unclear whether or not the Vikings will punish Mike Hughes for being in the car Jayron Kearse was driving when he was arrested for DWI. Hill’s return improves the corner depth and gives Mike Zimmer some options.

In all likelihood, Xavier Rhodes will once again get the start against the Chiefs. He has been getting beat by just about any receiver who lines up against him. Things won’t be any easier for Rhodes against the Chiefs and their high powered offensive attack.

Whether the quarterback is Pat Mahomes or Matt Moore, Andy Reid will be aware of Rhodes’s recent play and will undoubtedly be going after him early and often.

If Holton Hill is active and ready to go, the Vikings can put Rhodes on a short leash. If No. 29 is struggling in coverage and with his tackling, the Vikings can pull him for a series or two. Mike Hughes would likely be the first man to take Rhodes’ spot, but Hill would be next man up.

Hill had an impressive rookie campaign, and it will be interesting to see how he performs after his lengthy break. He’ll be thrown into the fire against the Chiefs, but hopefully, Hill will be looking to get back on his head coach’s good side, and play inspired football.
