Britton Colquitt/Dan Bailey

So far this season, Minnesota hasn’t had a lot to complain about when it’s come to punter Britton Colquitt and kicker Dan Bailey. But a pair of mistakes made by the duo in Kansas City certainly factored into the Vikings suffering a loss on Sunday.

After Minnesota was able to pull ahead with a touchdown early in the third quarter, Bailey stepped onto the field and missed his second extra point attempt of the year.

The Vikings were still up by six points, but the miss ended up allowing the Chiefs to only need a field goal in the fourth quarter to tie the game up at 23. If Bailey had converted on his third quarter extra point try, Kansas City would have likely had to go for it on 4th-and-27 instead of kicking a 54-yard field goal.

After the Chiefs tied the game back up is when Colquitt decided to impact Sunday’s result. Punting from their own 18-yard line, the Minnesota punter shanked his kick and it ended up traveling a measly 27 yards to the Vikings’ 45-yard line.

Minnesota caught a break on the very next play after a Stephen Weatherly sack put the Chiefs back on their own 44-yard line. But Kansas City still only needed to gain 20 yards to get in field goal range thanks to Colquitt’s terrible punt.

These two mistakes by Bailey and Colquitt weren’t the ultimate reasons why the Vikings lost on Sunday, but they certainly played a part in the final score.
