Offensive MVP – Honorable Mentions

This was a disappointing game offensively for the Minnesota Vikings. They couldn’t consistently move the chains and converted only five of their fifteen attempts to pick up a third down, which was quite ugly.

Still, the team did put up 23 points, which can usually be enough to get a win if the Vikings defense can do their job. However, it wasn’t quite enough and no balance could be found between the run and pass. Quite an odd game.

Even though these players weren’t named the MVP, here are some honorable mentions for the award:

  • Laquon Treadwell, wide receiver – It feels odd to be praising Treadwell, but he stepped up the most after Adam Thielen was forced out of the lineup. He had a career-high 58 yards on three catches, which was the most by any pass catcher on the team. To put things in perspective, the yardage of the next best wide receiver in this game was four yards. Four.
  • Dalvin Cook, running back – Cook struggled to get things going on the ground and couldn’t manage to break one for a long run. He did gain 71 yards on the ground in 23 carries and added four catches for 45 yards. He had a quiet day of 116 yards in the game on 27 touches, and that should still be appreciated.
  • C.J. Ham, fullback – This is a nice opportunity to give the fullback some love when he usually doesn’t get enough. On Twitter, I’m sure you all love the Ham gifs after he does something good, and odds are that there were a lot of them after he caught a pass for 32 yards. He ended with two catches for 37.
  • Ameer Abdullah, running back – It was odd not seeing Mattison get more action in this game, but Abdullah found the end zone on a nice 16-yard catch and run. His one run for two yards is largely forgettable, but it’s nice that he was able to contribute at a time when the rest of the team struggled.
