Cowboys’ wins are misleading

After their first eight games this season, Dallas is sitting in first place in the NFC East with a 5-3 record.

At first glance, 5-3 seems pretty respectable at this point in the year. When seeing who the Cowboys have defeated this season, however, the doubts about their true talent begin to show up.

Four of Dallas’ five victories this year have come against teams who have two wins or fewer. The Cowboys’ only respectable victory this season was in Week 7 when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, who are currently 5-4.

Now, the Vikings have also earned some wins against some pretty terrible opponents this year. But at least some of the teams Minnesota has defeated this season (Eagles, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders) are still shooting for the playoffs and not the top of the draft order.

Dallas hasn’t shown enough this year against actual postseason contenders to make anyone believe that they will leave the field with a win over the Vikings on Sunday night.
