The 2020 NFL offseason will be here before we know it and there are some free agents that the Minnesota Vikings should already be thinking about adding to their roster.

Heading into the 2020 offseason, the salary cap situation for the Minnesota Vikings couldn’t be much worse. With all of their current contracts, the Vikings are expected to begin next year with their cap being almost $2 million over the NFL limit.

Since teams are not allowed to be over the salary cap at any point, Minnesota will likely need to part ways with some big contracts on their roster during the upcoming offseason. Guys like Linval Joseph, Stefon Diggs, Xavier Rhodes, Everson Griffen, Kyle Rudolph, and Riley Reiff are among those who could be on the chopping block in 2020.

The Vikings can also create more cap space by extending some of their top players in 2020. Among those who Minnesota could attempt to extend next year to increase their spending money are Danielle Hunter, Harrison Smith, and Kirk Cousins.

How much cap space the Vikings are able to create during the early part of the offseason will determine how aggressive they will be during the league’s 2020 free agency period.

Even if they don’t end up having a ton of money to spend next year, Minnesota will still look for creative ways to improve their roster. The Vikings didn’t have a ton of cap space during the most recent offseason and they were still able to re-sign Anthony Barr and add two starters from free agency in Josh Kline and Shamar Stephen.

With only six games left on their 2019 schedule, the offseason will be here before we know it for Minnesota. So who are some of the 2020 free agents the Vikings should already be thinking about when it comes time to improve their roster next year.
