Chris Thompson – RB

With Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison, the Vikings appear to be set with the top two spots on their running back depth chart for the next few seasons. If there is anything Minnesota could add to the group though, it would be a back with a little more NFL experience.

Chris Thompson has been with the Washington Redskins since 2013 and he’s been able to last in the league for as long as he has due to his versatility as both a rusher and a receiver out of the backfield.

Current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was a teammate of Thompson’s when the signal-caller was with the Redskins and the pair developed a good connection on the field during their time together. With Cousins as Washington’s starter from 2015 to 2017, the veteran running back averaged 41 catches, 366 yards, and three touchdowns per season.

In addition to his familiarity with Cousins, Thompson would provide a ton of experience and leadership to Minnesota’s offensive backfield. The Vikings know Cook and Mattison are full of talent, but adding someone like Thompson to the fold could help in keeping the team’s young running backs on track to becoming one of the scariest duos in the league.
