5 Vikings players to watch vs. the Broncos in Week 11
By Nik Edlund
Josh Doctson – WR
The Vikings signed Josh Doctson as a free agent earlier in the season. He got hurt fairly soon after the signing and has been on injured reserve since.
He is now healthy and has practiced all week. On Friday, Minnesota announced that Doctson has officially been removed from injured reserve and added to the active roster.
Doctson was a guy the Vikings were interested in back in the 2016 Draft. They loved his size, speed, and hands, and many figured he’d be the team’s choice.
However, the Washington Redskins sniped Minnesota and they ended up with Laquon Treadwell instead. It was basically a wash because both of these big pass catchers have been disappointments in their NFL careers so far.
The Vikings receiving corps is banged up with Adam Thielen missing Sunday’s contest again. Bisi Johnson and Treadwell have filled in admirably in his absence, but Doctson would bring a new element to Minnesota’s passing game.
Doctson has good size and he excels at high pointing the football and going up and grabbing it above a defender. He would be a major threat in the red zone and could help ease the loss of not having Thielen in those situations.
Another major plus with Doctson is his familiarity with Kirk Cousins. These guys played together in Washington, know each others’ tendencies, and formed a rapport in their days in DC. He could have some decent production for the Vikings this Sunday even with limited targets.
