Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman revealed on Tuesday that the team was one of many who attended the free-agent quarterback’s workout last Saturday.

Through the first 11 games of the 2019 season, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been one of the top passers in the entire NFL. Cousins has been performing at a very high level this year and it’s one of the main reasons why the Vikings are currently sitting with an 8-3 record.

With the way that Cousins is playing, Minnesota is not in need of a new starting quarterback anytime soon. However, the Vikings are always going to explore ways in which they can improve their roster, regardless of position.

Knowing that this is how Minnesota has operated under general manager Rick Spielman, it’s not surprising to find out that the team had a representative in attendance to watch Colin Kaepernick work out last Saturday.

According to multiple reports, Spielman revealed this piece of information during a meeting with the local Minnesota media on Tuesday. The Vikings general manager didn’t elaborate on what type of interest the team might have in Kaepernick and he said the team just approached the event, “like any other workout,” according to the Star Tribune’s Mark Craig.

Minnesota was one of many in attendance to watch the free-agent quarterback showcase his skills last Saturday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last week that more than 24 NFL teams were expected to show up to see what Kaepernick was able to do out on the field.

Are the Vikings going to sign the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback anytime soon? It seems highly unlikely, but he could be a candidate to be their backup behind Cousins in 2020 since Minnesota’s current No. 2 quarterback, Sean Mannion, is a free agent after this season.

It doesn’t sound like Spielman or Mike Zimmer were there to watch Kaepernick’s workout and that should tell you a lot about the Vikings’ actual interest in the quarterback.
