Griffen and Hunter can’t be stopped

Before the 2019 season even began, there was a chance that Everson Griffen wasn’t going to be on the field for the Vikings.

Minnesota was in need of creating some cap space during this past offseason and cutting Griffen was a path they could have taken to do this. Luckily, the Vikings and their veteran pass rusher agreed to a restructured deal that allowed him to remain on the roster for at least one more year.

It’s a good thing Minnesota was able to figure out a way to bring Griffen back for 2019 because the combination of him and fellow defensive end Danielle Hunter has been terrorizing opposing offensive lines all season long.

In 11 games this year, Griffen and Hunter have combined for 15.5 sacks, 37 quarterback hits, and 58 quarterback pressures. This ferocious pass-rushing duo has been responsible for 50 percent of the Vikings’ total sacks (31) this season.

Minnesota’s loss in Week 4 to the Chicago Bears is the only game this year in which neither Griffen or Hunter finished their day with at least 0.5 sacks.

For the Vikings to get to the Super Bowl this season, they will likely need to figure out how to defeat a number of talented quarterbacks. Minnesota having two of the best defensive ends in the NFL this year is certainly going to give them a better chance at accomplishing this.
