Xavier Rhodes – CB

After a disappointing 2018 campaign, the hope for Xavier Rhodes was that he would be able to rebound and return to being one of the NFL’s top shutdown corners this season. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Rhodes’ performance has just continued to head in the wrong direction this year.

In 11 games this season, the Vikings No. 1 corner has given up three touchdowns, allowed his coverage to catch 79.7 percent of their targets, intercepted zero passes, and drawn a total of seven penalties. Opposing quarterbacks have also posted a 117.8 rating when throwing to a receiver covered by Rhodes this year.

He still has three seasons remaining on his current contract with Minnesota before he is scheduled to hit free agency in 2023. However, Rhodes’ cap hit for next year is set to be more than $12.5 million and it seems highly unlikely that the Vikings are going to be content with paying him that sort of cash with the way he’s played during the last two seasons.

Minnesota will probably try to see what they can get in a trade for the veteran corner first and if they can’t find any takers then he will likely just be released. Unless he and the Vikings are able to agree to a much more team-friendly contract during the upcoming offseason, Rhodes’ time in the Twin Cities seems to be nearing the end.
