Cousins will stay hot down the stretch

One of the biggest surprises of 2019 has been the play of Kirk Cousins. After a large portion of the Vikings’ fan base was ready to run him out of town after a rough 2018 season and a brutal stretch to begin this year, Cousins has responded by throwing 18 touchdowns and one interception (that clanged off Stefon Diggs‘ hands) in his past seven games.

Naturally, the biggest question for the Vikings is whether Cousins can keep this going heading into the final months of the season. With what lies ahead, there’s a great chance that can keep up.

Cousins has been known for faltering when his team needs him the most as his teams have gone 11-12 in the month of December and his 89.8 QB rating in the month of December is his lowest in any month during his career. However, it’s where the games are being played that should play to his advantage.

Outside of when he’s angry, Cousins plays best when he plays in an environment where everything is controlled. In his career, Cousins has completed 72 percent of his passes with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 19 career games in a dome.

With the Vikings playing three of their final five games at U.S. Bank Stadium, Cousins should be able to thrive even as he plays big games down the stretch and with the expected return of Adam Thielen, he has a great chance to overturn his career narrative.
