Cris Carter says 98 Vikings are not one of the 100 greatest NFL teams

The former Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver recently shared his thoughts on the 1998 team being included with some of the best in NFL history.

It is a season that will never be forgotten by fans of the Minnesota Vikings. Old or young, most Vikings fans know all about the team’s magical run in 1998.

Fans, unfortunately, remember the heartbreaking end to Minnesota’s impressive season in 1998 as well. It’s something that a number of Vikings fans and former players still have trouble getting over.

Despite Minnesota falling short of earning a trip to the Super Bowl in 1998, that season’s team was still selected for the NFL’s 100 Greatest Teams that was recently revealed. Of the teams who were picked, the 1998 Vikings landed at No. 38 on the list.

Led by an offense that featured Randall Cunningham, Cris Carter, Randy Moss, and Robert Smith, Minnesota set numerous league records in 1998 and finished the year with 15 wins. They are still considered one of the best teams to never win a Super Bowl in the history of the NFL.

Even though he was a part of the magic in 1998, Carter actually doesn’t think people should consider this Vikings squad to be one of the greatest teams ever.

"“You’re talking about 100 years of football, I don’t think that team will go down as one of the greatest teams ever. It will go down as one of the biggest disappointments.”"

While Carter is right that the 1998 season ended with disappointment for Minnesota, it was also filled with a number of accomplishments and memorable moments. He should also remember that only 53 teams have won the Super Bowl, so this Vikings squad was likely going to be included on the list anyway.

No Minnesota team has ever won more games or scored as many points in a single season than the 1998 team. People still talk today about the greatness of the 1998 Vikings and how fun they were to watch.

So maybe Carter doesn’t think Minnesota’s squad from 1998 is worthy of being considered one of the NFL’s greatest teams, but there are plenty of people who feel otherwise.
