5 Vikings players to watch vs. the Seahawks in Week 13
By Nik Edlund
Adam Thielen – WR
Adam Thielen is expected to make his return to the Vikings lineup for the first time since appearing briefly in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs back in Week 9. Thielen hurt his hamstring During Minnesota’s Week 7 win in Detroit against the Lions and he hasn’t been able to fully recover since and he likely came back too soon.
The Vikings’ offense has gotten along fine without him though. Kirk Cousins as utilized his tight ends more in Thielen’s absence and Stefon Diggs has been able to provide the big plays when the team has needed them most.
As nice as that has been, having Thielen back in the lineup for the final five-game push of the season is huge for the Vikings. With him back in the fold, teams can’t look to double team Diggs or stack the box and anticipate the run. Thielen’s return should free up Diggs and it should open up much more running room for Dalvin Cook.
Having Thielen back is also huge for Cousins. The veteran receiver is the Minnesota quarterback’s go-to target, especially in the red zone. With No. 19 back in the lineup, Cousins should continue to stay hot and keep posting impressive numbers.
Obviously this all depends on whether or not Thielen has truly recovered from the hamstring injury and is 100 percent healthy. Fans will be watching closely on Monday night to see if that is indeed the case.
* (Update: Thielen was downgraded to OUT on Sunday and will miss Monday night’s game.)
