It has never been more apparent that the Vikings need to move on from Xavier Rhodes and start fresh at cornerback. Fans rolled their eyes when the team selected Mike Hughes in 2018 because of the depth at the position. Now, in 2019, fans are calling for a cornerback to be selected in the first round once again.

Kristian Fulton out of LSU would be a good first step in rebuilding the secondary. Fulton is a former track star with a great mindset on the football field. His speed and football IQ are the baseline that creates his first-round projection.

Fulton does a great job at deciphering plays at the line and reading the wide receiver. His patience at the top of routes and at the line of scrimmage keeps him from getting torched. His ball skills are also incredible despite having only two career interceptions.

This season alone, Fulton has 11 pass deflections. He meets Mike Zimmer’s standards, standing at 6-feet and 200 pounds. Fulton could be an instant starter in 2020 if the Vikings give him a chance.

There are a handful of glaring needs on Minnesota’s roster heading into 2020. Cornerback might be the biggest problem moving forward and Kristian Fulton may be gone before the Vikings are on the clock to make their first pick. If he lasts, Minnesota has to strongly consider the LSU defensive back.
