Armon Watts – DT

Armon Watts was called up a few weeks ago when Linval Joseph had to have surgery on his knee. The 6th round rookie has been impressive. In three games of spot duty, he’s racked up 8 total tackles and half a sack. He made a big play against the Seahawks last Monday, as we went up and swatted a Russell Wilson pass that ended up getting swatted again by Wilson, before ending up in the hands of Anthony Harris who took it to the house. The Vikings defense has lacked big plays and the youngster was able to create one.

The one issue Watts seems to have is in run defense. He played a lot of snaps against the Seahawks and was pretty ineffective against their running attack. He’s no Linval Joseph, but he isn’t supposed to be. He should be on the field with Joseph creating that interior pressure while the Big Goon shuts down the run.

Watts has had a great start to his Vikings career and his snap count should continue to rise from here on out. It’ll be interesting to see how much playing time he gets against the Lions and if he can create another big play.
