Diggs closing in on joining elite company

Despite the fact that he emerged as the top receiver for the Vikings during his first three years with the team, Stefon Diggs didn’t amass more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single-season until 2018. Well, on Sunday, Diggs inched even closer to surpassing this yardage total for the second season in a row.

With six catches for 92 yards during Minnesota’s win over the Lions, the talented receiver has now accumulated 997 yards so far this year. With three more yards during the Vikings’ final three games, Diggs will become the seventh player in team history to finish with at least 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons.

Despite his weekly catch average being the lowest since his rookie year, Diggs is currently in the middle of arguably his most impressive season in a Minnesota uniform. The 26-year-old receiver has hauled in 56 passes for 997 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a career-high 17.8 yards per catch.

Some assumed Diggs’ numbers would take a hit when fellow receiver Adam Thielen went down with a hamstring injury a few weeks ago. But somehow, Diggs has managed to still continue playing at a high level without his partner in crime taking away some of the defense’s attention.

The veteran Vikings receiver has yet to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl since he entered the NFL in 2015. But with the way Diggs is playing, it’s hard to imagine him being passed over again this year.
