A trip to the Super Bowl likely won’t go through the Twin Cities

Despite having nine wins in their first 13 games of the season, the Vikings are still the No. 6 seed in the NFC. It’s very possible that Minnesota could win each of their remaining three matchups and still not get the opportunity to host a playoff game.

Currently, the Vikings’ best-case scenario for the postseason is to win the NFC North. In order for that to happen, Minnesota has to win the rest of their games (including Week 16 against the Packers) and hope that Green Bay falls to either the Bears in Week 15 or the Lions in Week 17.

This is a possibility, but FiveThirtyEight currently has the Vikings with only a 24 percent chance to win their division this season (76 percent chance for the Packers).

So if Minnesota is hoping to earn a spot in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1976 this year, it will probably have to be accomplished by winning three-straight road playoff games.
