Offensive MVP – Honorable Mentions

This was a strange game for the offense. For how many “WOW” plays were made by the Minnesota Vikings, it felt like more points should have been on the board. However, the team only reached paydirt twice in the game.

It was two touchdowns, two extra points, and two field goals which accounted for the 20 points scored in this game, but the Vikings definitely get some style points for how they moved the ball in Week 14.

Even though these players weren’t named the MVP, here are some honorable mentions for the award:

  • Stefon Diggs, wide receiver: Diggs electrified the game by making few great plays that opened eyes when the game seemed to be lulling at points. One was a 44-yard bomb that was hauled in and another was an absolute dart thrown by Cousins to the sideline which he somehow caught. He ended the game with six catches for 92 yards, leading the team in both those stats.
  • Dalvin Cook, running back: Although he didn’t look as dominant as in the past, Cook did damage on the ground by running 18 times for 62 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 13 yards. 20 touches isn’t a lot for Minnesota’s feature back, but the Vikings were able to sprinkle in other running backs to keep Cook fresh.
  • Laquon Treadwell, wide receiver: It’s great to be able to praise the former first-round pick who returned to the Vikings as a free agent. Treadwell has been stepping up in big situations lately and this week saw him haul in two passes for 42 yards, including a beautiful 36-yard catch and run.
  • Alexander Mattison, running back: On paper, Mattison’s 14 carries for 46 yards isn’t very impressive. However, it was a hurdling jump over a Lions defender that not only got the crowd on its feet but excited viewers at home. Mattison also caught two passes for 18 yards.
  • Bisi Johnson, wide receiver: Every NFL player wants that moment they can put on a highlight reel. For Johnson, his nine-yard touchdown reception looked like something from a Madden NFL 20 replay. He high pointed a ball thrown only where Johnson could get it, and the results made for some great photography!
