Minnesota Vikings MVPs: Week 14 vs. Detroit Lions
By Adam Carlson
Offensive MVP – Kirk Cousins, quarterback
It’s honestly amazing what Kirk Cousins can do with some time to read a defense. This game, the offensive line kept Cousins clean for a majority of the game, allowing only one sack on the day and that protection allowed the Minnesota Vikings passer to do some damage.
Cousins connected with 11 different players in this game. His ability to spread the ball around kept the Lions defense guessing. Plus, Kirk was able to deliver the ball on short and long passes while keeping the threat of a run alive with great play action.
Accuracy was no problem in this game. Cousins completed 24 of his 30 passing attempts, which is an excellent 80 percent. Considering several of those incompletions were throwaways when nothing was available, it’s even more impressive.
Ending the day with 242 yards and one touchdown, Cousins’ impact was far beyond just the stat book. He played conservative football, yet cashed in on some big plays and made the tight throws needed to win this game. He was efficient, yet exciting at times. And that’s the version of Cousins that will help bring this Vikings team to the playoffs.
