Minnesota’s secondary will feast on Rivers

The Vikings secondary has had plenty of issues this season and with the defense taking a collective step back, it’s easy to think that the Chargers passing attack could have a big day. But while things have been rough for Mike Zimmer’s unit, they should get a boost going up against Philip Rivers.

Always known to be a gunslinger, Rivers has led Los Angeles with a gunslinging mentality since being involved in the swap for Eli Manning back in 2004. While it does have its benefits, it also has held the Chargers back at times including this year in what’s been a down season for the veteran quarterback.

In his last four games, Rivers has completed just 60 percent of his passes while throwing eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Take out last week’s demolition of the Jacksonville Jaguars where Rivers threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns, he has a meager 66.3 QB rating over three of his past four matchups.

The Chargers’ offensive line is beat up and that should allow the Vikings’ defensive line to provide enough disruption to force things. Although Keenan Allen and Mike Williams should bring a challenge to the Minnesota secondary, the play of Rivers could be a turning point.
