Minnesota’s depth comes up huge

In the NFL, what separates the good teams from the bad has a lot to do with the talent that is on the depth chart behind the starters.

The Vikings have found out numerous times already this season that they have a talented group of reserves on both offense and defense and this was on display, once again, on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Against the Chargers, Minnesota got great performances out of guys like Ifeadi Odenigbo, Mike Hughes, Eric Wilson, Irv Smith Jr., and Mike Boone. All of these players came up with big plays on Sunday that had a big impact on the result of the matchup.

Odenigbo scooped up a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown, Hughes snagged an interception, Wilson deflected a punt, Smith hauled in a pass in the back of the end zone, and Boone scored the first two rushing touchdowns of his young career.

The Vikings have some of the most talented players in the league in their offensive and defensive starting lineups. But on Sunday, Minnesota’s reserves proved to be a big factor and their efforts in the future could determine how well the team performs come playoff time.
