Minnesota’s defense has a turnover party

After the Vikings came up with their fourth takeaway of the game early in the third quarter on Sunday, most already viewed that as an impressive accomplishment by the team’s defense. However, Minnesota’s defenders went on to add even more turnovers to their total.

When the final whistle blew on Sunday in Los Angeles, the Vikings had forced the Chargers to turn the ball over seven times. Not only has Minnesota never forced seven turnovers with Mike Zimmer as their head coach, they didn’t accomplish this under their previous three head coaches either.

The last time the Vikings finished with seven takeaways in a regular season game, it happened back in 1995 when they got a Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Previously, the most turnovers Minnesota had forced their opponent to commit in a matchup with Zimmer as their head coach came in 2016 when they came up with five takeaways in a victory over the Chicago Bears.
