Original Pick:

Alexander Mattison – RB (Boise State)

Re-draft:

Mattison

Knowing what they know now, the Vikings would’ve still made the same choice they did in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Alexander Mattison has proven to be an effective NFL running back. He doesn’t go down on first contact and he will fight for extra yardage on every carry. He has proven to be a nice compliment to Dalvin Cook and Minnesota’s offense really never took a step back when the rookie was in the backfield.

Mattison, on the season, totaled 462 rushing yards and one touchdown on 100 carries to go along with 10 catches for 82 yards. Many figured Mattison would have more than just one touchdown this year being the primary goal-line back for the Vikings, but he was shut out many times on his goal-line touches this season.

Mattison has been exactly what Minnesota figured he would be. He has been a reliable back who has helped out in the passing game and gained tough yards up the middle. His strong play also allows Cook to get a breather or two each week, helping keep the most dynamic weapon on the Vikings’ offense fresh.
