Original Pick:

Dru Samia – OG (Oklahoma)

Re-draft:

Michael Jordan – OG (Ohio State)

There was a lot of buzz surrounding Dru Samia when the Vikings drafted him last April. Many figured he’d compete for a starting job with newly signed Josh Kline.

After Minnesota’s minicamp, that hype increased tenfold. The team was impressed with the rookie’s overall size and movement skills. Many were positive they would see this young blocker active for the Vikings on game days in 2019, but that just didn’t happen.

Samia was active for just two games this season. Something must be up with this kid for Minnesota to keep him in street clothes for most of the year.

Maybe he’s just slow to adapt to the offense, but for him to be unable to unseat the struggling Pat Elflein or step in when Kline was out with concussions was disheartening.

Being active for just two games isn’t a great return on a fourth-round pick in year one. Perhaps 2020 will see Samia take a step in the right direction for the Vikings.

Minnesota would’ve been better off taking former Ohio State guard Michael Jordan. Jordan was active for 13 games for the Cincinnati Bengals this season and he started nine of these contests. He could’ve come in and pushed Elflein for his job at left guard and perhaps even been an upgrade for the Vikings.
